Authorisation for the use or placing on the market of the substance

    Scope of application

All chemical substances manufactured in or imported into the European Union, regardless of tonnage, and considered dangerous or of very high concern and included in the authorisation list.

    Exclusion

The use, import or placing on the market of articles containing substances which are themselves subject to authorisation are not covered by this obligation.

    Description

If the substance is on the authorisation list, producers or importers, only representatives and downstream users must have an authorisation to use the substance or to place it on the market after its expiry date.

Companies wishing to continue to use a substance on the authorisation list after the expiry date must prepare an application for authorisation, submit it before the application deadline and obtain a positive authorisation decision from the European Commission. The application deadline and the expiry date are specified in the authorisation list.
