    Delivery of a work certificate

    Scope of application

    Any employer, upon termination or end of an employment contract (dismissal, resignation, end of fixed-term contract or apprenticeship contract, retirement, contractual termination), whatever the cause.

    Description

    The work certificate is a document given by the employer to the employee on the date of the end of the employment contract. It is given to the employee for any type of employment contract (CDI, CDD ...), whatever the reason for the termination (resignation, dismissal ...).

    The particulars that must appear on the certificate are as follows:
    • Identity of the employer (name, address, company name, registered office)
    • Employee identity (surname, first name, address)
    • Employee entry and exit dates
    • Nature of the post (s) successively occupied
    • Periods during which the employee held these jobs
    • Free maintenance of health coverage throughout the period of unemployment, if the employee benefited from it
    • Free maintenance of pension guarantees (in the event of death, incapacity for work or invalidity) during the entire period of unemployment, if the employee benefited from them
    • Date of delivery of the certificate and place of its drafting
    • Employer's signature
    The date of delivery of the certificate may vary depending on the notice:
    • if the employee gives his notice: the employer gives the employee his work certificate on the date of the end of the employment contract;
    • if the employee is exempt from notice:  the employer gives the employee his or her work certificate on the date of termination of the employment contract, even if the employee is exempt from notice.
