Source separation of bio-waste
Scope of application
Any professional or private individual producing or holding biowaste. Biowaste means :
- Green waste: lawn clippings and mowing, dead leaves, shrub, hedge and twig prunings, and wood waste from pruning and felling trees and hedges.
- Food waste: leftovers from meals or food preparation, or uneaten products that have expired.
Description
In accordance with European law and the 2020 anti-waste law, the sorting of bio-waste is generalized from January 1, 2024, and concerns all professionals and private individuals, producers or holders of bio-waste.
The producer or holder concerned is thus required to organize the sorting at source of its bio-waste with a view to organic recovery (composting, methanization or direct spreading). It is up to them to organize the internal separation of bio-waste from other types of waste produced.
For collection, treatment and subsequent recovery, it is recommended that those concerned contact their current waste management service providers, or consider working with a service provider specialized in bio-waste management.
